Maor Kandil whose goal in the Tel Aviv derby last week was disallowed by VAR wasn’t quick to celebrate the late winner he scored against Bnei Sakhnin at Doha stadium. Kandil celebrated his goal only after VAR approved before saying at the end of the game: “I celebrated the goal at the derby last week and people laughed at me for celebrating too early before the goal was chalked off. This time I chose to wait, especially as it was such a crucial moment and I am delighted the goal was approved”.
On the match itself Kandil said: “I think we had a good start in the first 10 minutes but after that we didn’t look too good. Sakhnin are a good side and one can have an off day but the most important thing is to grit your teeth and collect the points. We showed a lot of character which is the most important thing”.
Kandil reflected on previous encounters with Sakhnin as he added: “In four matches against Sakhnin last season we failed to win and breaking that record was important as well. This season however is a marathon and we have plenty of work ahead of us”.
