Maccabi’s preparations for the 2023/24 campaign continued as newly appointed Head Coach, Robbie Keane, saw his players beat fellow top-flight club Ashdod SC 1-0 at a friendly in Kiryat Shalom. Eran Zahavi scored the only goal of the game as he successfully converted a penalty in the first half. Dor Peretz, who was tripped in the box by Ashdod’s Martin Atemengue, was the only international to feature in the match. Keane allowed Israel’s trio Dan Glazer, Gabi Kanichowsky and Ofir Davidzada as well as Djordje Jovanovic who played for Serbia during the international break – a bit more time to rest.
New signing Yvann Macon who joined Maccabi earlier this week and is gradually integrated into the team, was also watching his teammates from the sidelines.
A day after being knocked out by England in the U21 European Championship Semi Finals – Daniel Peretz, Roy Revivo and Dor Turgeman were also absent and will be given a much-needed rest. One player who did make his first appearance in a Maccabi shirt was goalkeeper Roei Misphati who joined the club in the summer.
Maccabi’s preparations will shift a gear on Sunday as the team will head out to Spain and hold a pre-season training camp in Marbella.
