There is no Maccabi fan who was raised in the 90’s that doesn’t remember the day we won 3-1 on the final day of the 1995/96 season. There is no fan who couldn’t saw where she watched the dramatic 3-2 derby of the 2013/14 season. If you are those who were hit by the Yellow and Blue bug back in the 80’s or even before, you would probably recall where you were almost 40 years ago when one of the most dramatic and memorable State Cup finals was played.

This season as well, the club continues its’ tradition of retro matches that became a popular feature amongst Maccabi fans that pays tribute to one legendary team from the past.
This time we chose the class of 1986/87 which was packed with home grown talents, a team that ended a 10 year barren run. A team that won the State Cup at the end of an extraordinary final against Maccabi Haifa that ended in a 3-3 draw after extra time and was settled in a penalty shoot-out.
Our next home match against Maccabi Petah Tikva (Saturday, 19:30) will be dedicated entirely to the class of 1986/87. The current Maccabi will play with a replica retro kit which was born by the team that lifted the Cup at the Ramat Gan national stadium back in June 1987.
The atmosphere at Bloomfield stadium should be emotional as prior to kickoff we will hold a ceremony presenting and honoring the legends of the 1986/87 season. amongst some of the surprises which will await you in the stadium you could find the retro shirts from 1986/87 featuring the old Maccabi crest. In addition you could add to your collection a special retro jacket directly from the 80’s as well as a unique scarf which was launched for the occasion. This year we also have great news for the parents and the kids: we solved your headache ahead of Purim with an official retro costume which is available both online and at the official store at Bloomfield.
If you are one of those who can’t contain yourself, we would like you to know that the nostalgic celebration will begin on Friday as you can enjoy a selection of retro content on the official App and Maccabi’s social media platforms. Amongst the content you could watch a special feature with Bonnie Ginzburg and Eli Driks, two stars of that Maccabi team, who take us back to that State Cup final.
