Following their convincing league championship success, Yanakale Grundman and his boys in yellow and blue are hurtling towards their next target — the group stage of the European Intertoto competition.
Maccabi are proud once again to represent Israeli soccer on the international stage and Benny Tabak will lead the way in trying to make a mark on the continent.
Maccabi will join the competition directly in the group stages together with Maccabi Jaffa, and they could face some of the most prestigious teams in Europe who are entered in the top tier of the competition.
So who could we face?
Among the possible opponents are SV Hamburg with their star, Felix Magath, or Swedish national team goalkeeper Thomas Ravelli of Osters IF or Finn Laudrup of FC Copenhagen.
Maccabi are hoping not to have to face a Swiss side at this stage and Grasshoppers Zurich, who are considered to be particularly dangerous, with the legendary Gunter Netzer in their side.
Other sides who will pose a formidable threat are FC Amsterdam or FC Twente and their star, Piet Wildschut.
We are all looking forward to an exciting summer at Bloomfield with the first game in the competition taking place on June 25.
