Reuven Atar scored from the spot (66) and Eran Zahavi doubled Maccabi Tel Aviv's advantage in his maiden appearance (90) to move the club into the last 16 of the National Cup

Maccabi Tel Aviv beat Maccabi Netanya at their new stadium 0-2 in the eighth round of the National Cup to book their place in the last sixteen of the competition. Some 5,000 loyal MTA fans turned up in the diamond city to show their support and were rewarded with a spot kick from Eliran Atar, his 19th goal of the season in all competitions, and a goal from new arrival Eran Zahavi in his first ever appearance in the blue-yellow jersey of Maccabi Tel Aviv. After a first 45 minutes devoid of threats at either end of the pitch, the second half proved more entertaining, with Eliran Atar scoring a penalty at the halfway mark and Eran Zahavi adding a second deep into stoppage time, giving the Tel Aviv Maccabians their 0-2 victory.

The start of the match saw both clubs operating primarily in midfield, leaving the goalkeepers at either end with little to do. Not until halfway through the first half did Netanya defender Serjh Lupo see his shot on goal gathered comfortably by Tel Aviv keeper Barak Levi. The more than 5,000 MTA fans seated in the brand new Netanya terraces waited anxiously to see their club respond in kind, but the Netanya defence succeeded in keeping Tel Aviv strikers Reuven Atar and Rade Pricca in check. At the end of a first half offering little in the way of excitement both clubs left the pitch locked in a 0-0 draw.

Only as the second half progressed did Maccabi Tel Aviv begin to take hold of the tie and start to attack the goal of Netanya keeper Luigi Chenamo. Maccabi Tel Aviv head coach Oscar Garcia sent on the recently acquired Eran Zahavi for his maiden appearance in an MTA jersey and just minutes later the midfielder was almost on the scoreboard with a slick manoeuvre. The breakthrough came in the 66th minute when striker Rade Pricca was brought down in the area and Eliran Atar successfully converted the penalty kick awarded. Tel Aviv held on to their advantage until the dying moments of the match when Eran Zahavi was delivered a ball inside the 16 yard box which he fired high into the Netanya net to make the score 0-2 at the final whistle.
