Maccabi Tel Aviv captain Sheran Yeini has had his first call-up for Israel's World Cup Qualifier against Portugal this coming Friday afternoon: "I'd like to get some time on the pitch"

After eight years in a yellow jersey, Maccabi Tel Aviv captain Sheran Yeini is finally getting the recognition he so richly deserves. The 26 year-old, who can play both in midfield and in defence, was appointed the team's skipper last summer and has been having the best season of his footballing career. He's appeared in all of the team's league matches and just recently received his first call-up for the national side. He's also in the running for the goal of the season (in December at Bloomfield Stadium against Hapoel Haifa), he added one more against Hapoel Akko and has an additional two assists to his credit. This coming Friday afternoon Yeini will don the blue and white national colours for the first time for Israel's qualifying match against Portugal, giving official recognition to an exceptionally successful season for an exceptionally talented footballer. "We have two very difficult matches ahead, one against Portugal and one against Northern Ireland. I'm looking forward to seeing them both finish successfully." Have a look at the clip.
