This afternoon the official Facebook page of the Maccabi Tel Aviv Football Club played host to the club's head coach Paulo Sousa for a live chat session. At the session Maccabi fans had the opportunity to ask him questions about whatever they had on their minds in the run up to the opening of the 2013/14 Israeli Premier League season.
The Maccabi Tel Aviv Facebook page immediately filled up with hundreds of supporters' questions and Sousa patiently answered most of them. Motti Nochian asked the coach if for him Maccabi was merely a springboard to a position at a big European club or a long term project. Sousa answered that so far he was concerned there were no big clubs, only big projects and that for him Maccabi Tel Aviv was the best project he could possibly get at the moment. Nir Weinstein asked him what was the best movie he'd seen recently and the coach answered that the best movie he'd seen was watching his team play. When Dor Bahat asked him which player in all the world he would like to bring to Maccabi, he answered that so far he was concerned his players were the best in the world. Yehonatan Dabul asked Paulo if he intended to play with different squads in the league and in Europe, and he answered that all his players must be prepared to play in all competitions and invest all their energy in those competitions as well. Elad Amitai was curious what formation the coach intended to use in the first league match and Sousa answered that his tactic was to win matches. Lior Fortman's request to have the coach rank the importance of the various competitions vis-à-vis the Derby against Hapoel Tel Aviv prompted the response that Derby wins were very important because they contributed to the title campaign. He also reassured Nissim Levi that he understood the importance of the Derby to Maccabi Tel Aviv supporters because every fan he's met has always made a point of mentioning it.
Have a look at all these and the answers to other questions about why Paulo chose to coach in Israel, the importance of the players' nutrition and what his favourite animal is. Just go to the Official Maccabi Tel Aviv Facebook page.
