Winger Tal Ben Haim, like the rest of the Maccabi Tel Aviv squad, is preparing for the team's crucial Europa League tie against FC Basel: "We've already made mistakes against them and paid dearly. Hopefully we won't repeat them on Thursday"
After Saturday night's important win at Petach Tikva, Maccabi Tel Aviv will turn their attention to their European campaign which resumes on Thursday at 10pm when Swiss champions FC Basel return to Bloomfield Stadium, this time for the first leg of the Europa League round of 32. After the match in Petach Tikva, Maccabi head coach Paulo Sousa also addressed himself to this critical forthcoming encounter: " We're talking about two teams who will get another opportunity to play against each another at a different moment with some different players, with a different Basel team than we saw at the beginning. The two games before were tight, with a difference on aggregate of one goal. Hopefully this time we will also make it tight with a difference of one goal, but this time for our side".
Winger Tal Ben Haim, who played in both previous engagements with Basel, hopes the team will have learnt their lessons ahead of the two upcoming encounters: "Basel are a different sort of outfit to the Israeli clubs we're accustomed to facing in the league each week. You can't afford to make mistakes. In the home leg at the beginning of the season we made three mistakes and conceded three goals in the first half hour. Ultimately we came level, but this Thursday we simply can't afford to make those kinds of mistakes".
Maccabi's new French born defender, Remi Mareval, added: "I'm very happy to play for Maccabi Tel Aviv because it's very good for me to play in the Europa League and I hope to play against FC Basel. It's a good game and I hope to win".
