Maccabi's new striker, Barak Badash, is acclimatising to life in Tel Aviv: "This is where I've always dreamt of playing"
The career of Maccabi Tel Aviv's new striker, Barak Badash, has always been characterised by "fashionable tardiness". While most young football players in the Israeli Premier League obtain the status in the army of "exceptional athlete" and are therefore entitled to maintain their training and appearances at their clubs, Badash started his senior team duties at Maccabi Hadera in Israel's third division and therefore did his military service in full. Towards the end of that service, just as he was deliberating his future as a football player, he received a proposal from Hapoel Tel Aviv, who were looking to strengthen their squad while wrestling with financial difficulties. Since then Badash has "ploughed" his way through the lengths and depths of the Israeli Premier League, playing for five different clubs before spending a season at Belgian side Beveren. Today aged 31, having won his first league title with Ironi Kiryat Shmona in the 2011/2012 season, Barak Badash has found his way to the most decorated football club in Israel, and can't stop smiling. Meet the man behind the smile.
