Ahead of today's match against Maccabi Netanya, four former Maccabi Tel Aviv and Netanya players choose their favourite, and unfavourite, moments from earlier contests between the two
Oded Machnes
Played for Maccabi Tel Aviv: 1986/87
Played for Maccabi Netanya: 1973-1984
A moment to forget: "Without question the most humiliating defeat of my entire career. In my time the two clubs were giants and ties between the two were special events. In 1976/77 I was playing for Netanya in a match I really didn't enjoy, the State Cup semis. The result was unexpected, but (Tel Aviv's) Vicki Peretz put in a stellar performance and we got thrashed 6-1 in Ramat Gan".
A moment to remember: "It took us almost five years to respond, but in 1981 we were waiting for them, ready to get our own back. Even after we went in front 3-0 we never let up for a moment, not until the sixth one went in and we walked away 6-0 winners at home".
Amir Shelach
Played for Maccabi Tel Aviv: 1989, 1990-1998, 2000-2002
Played for Maccabi Netanya: 2002-2004
A great moment for Tel Aviv: "1991/92 was a great season for us, we finished thirteen points on top of the league, we simply couldn't stop scoring. Our championship match was a 0-3 win in Netanya, and the celebrations reflected the brilliant season we were having".
A great moment for Netanya: "We were having a good season in 2002/03 and we finished fourth behind the big three, the champions Maccabi Tel Aviv, Hapoel Tel Aviv and Maccabi Haifa. Late in the season we were already out of the running but we decided we wanted our say in the title race so we beat all three of them consecutively, including Maccabi Tel Aviv at home 2-0. It made us very proud".
Moshe Glam
Played for Maccabi Tel Aviv: 1997-1999
Played for Maccabi Netanya: 1992/93, 1999/2000, 2001/02
A moment to forget: "Missing a penalty in front of 30,000 spectators. In 1992/93 we were this close to making it to the finals of the State Cup, until that cruel penalty shoot-out against Maccabi Tel Aviv. Ramat Gan Stadium was full but I missed my penalty and Maccabi Tel Aviv went on to the finals".
A moment to remember: "A sweet winner at Bloomfield. In 2002/03 I scored the winner for Maccabi Netanya when we won 0-1 at Bloomfield Stadium. Sweeter still because earlier in the season we'd lost to them at home 0-4".
Moshe Gariani
Played for Maccabi Tel Aviv: 1985-1988
Played for Maccabi Netanya: 1976-1979, 1980-1985
A moment to forget: "I have to agree with Oded Machnes and go back to 1976/77 and the 6-1 thrashing we received from Maccabi Tel Aviv in the State Cup semis. Vicki Peretz was running rings around us, no other way to describe it. He was simply unstoppable and he scored four goals and dumped us out of the competition. We felt humiliated and what made it worse is that for us at Netanya, beating Maccabi Tel Aviv was always our dream".
A moment to remember: "Here again I agree with Oded, 6-0 against Maccabi Tel Aviv in 1981/82. Absolutely unforgettable, and for me and Maccabi Netanya, indescribable as well".
