With the club in the throes of an advanced Cup campaign and a very tight title race at the top of the Israeli Premier League table, Maccabi CEO Martin Bain, together with the professional staff and the rest of management personnel, all took time off to visit Squadron 101 at the Israeli Air Force Base "Hatzor" not far from Tel Aviv
This is the second year running that the club have received an invitation to visit the squadron, who describe themselves as avowed Maccabi Tel Aviv supporters. During the visit, Mr Bain and the professional staff lead by head coach Pako Ayestaran were fully briefed by one of the squadron's pilots and given the opportunity to examine an F-16 fighter jet at close quarters.
"When we arrived you said it was a great honour for you to be hosting Maccabi Tel Aviv here at the base, but in fact the honour is all ours to be visiting you here," Mr Bain told the officer in charge of the group's visit. He added: "In sports, and in football in particular, it's up to the coach and the players to get results that keep the fans happy. That may very well be a great responsibility, but it pales in comparison to the responsibility that rests on your shoulders".
