“It was a hard match and we didn’t have enough aggressiveness on the pitch. We need a bit more confidence when we have the ball and find the open spaces to operate in as there were some areas that we could have taken advantage of. We will learn from this, improve and stand toe to toe with these clubs going forward.”

Were you surprised with Chelsea’s level of play:

“We gave them perhaps a bit too much respect but this was a learning experience and we played one of the greatest clubs in the world. We knew we wouldn’t be as good as Chelsea but there are places that we can get better and close the gap between us and Chelsea.”

Tal, this was a hard game for Maccabi:

“Yes, it was a tough match against the English Champions Chelsea at their home stadium. Our players did the best they could but it’s hard to match up with the best in the world and we’re disappointed with the result.”

What else could you have done:

“I’m sure we can all give more, but the level of play between Chelsea and Maccabi is stark. You can’t say we played well as we fell 4:0 but we will get up and continue on. We know it won’t be simple to play at these levels and when we began the game we saw how good they were.”
