Maccabi Tel Aviv defeated Bnei Yehuda 4:0 with the help of an Eran Zahavi brace and goals by Shlomi Azulay and Tal Ben Chaim that sent home all of the Yellow-and-Blue faithful who made the trip north to Netanya very happy. One player who didn’t score but certainly played a huge role in the victory was Eli Dasa who joined the club back in the summer. Dasa who has been playing excellent football since returning from injury spoke to the official website about the match, how he’s been adapting to his new team and his good friend Shlomi Azulay:
“I think that we should have been able to capitalize on the chances we had in the first half but it wasn’t easy. In the second half we picked up the pace and we finally scored the goal that opened the game up.”
On transitioning between the Champions League and the Israeli League:
“At the end of the day it all comes down to experience. We just have to keep doing things over and over again until we learn how to deal with these types of situations playing in two different competitions. I’m happy that everything went well today. We have one more Champions League match and then we get back to league play.”
Acclimating to his new club:
“I felt like I was part of the team from the first minute I joined the club. It took me some time to show some of my qualities but even with that I have a lot to do to continue to improve. I’m happy that I can begin to see why Maccabi brought me to the club. The injury did me some good as it gave me time to see things from the side and learn more about the team.”
About Shlomi Azulay’s performance:
“There’s no one happier than me that both Shlomi and Dor did well today. They’re both good friends and it’s great to see them contributing.”
The championship race:
“It’s very important to end the first round of matches in first place. In order to win the championship we have to make sure that we can stay at the top of the table and that’s super difficult. Beer Sheva is a good team that’s collecting points so it won’t be an easy task ahead.”
