This past year was all Yellow-and-Blue with a very packed schedule of events throughout the last 12 months. Maccabi took part in five different campaigns that included 60 official matches. The month of August was the busiest with eight games as the Yellow-and-Blue took part in the Toto Cup, Champions League qualifying, WINNER League and the Champions Cup. The club won four games while losing and drawing twice. And yes, you remembered correctly; the two draws were against Basel that helped Maccabi advance to the group stages of the Champions League.
Maccabi’s best month was January, playing six times winning five matches and drawing once. On the flip side the team only played one time in the month of June and lost in a league match that lacked any significance due to the fact the team had already sewn up the championship.
The Yellow-and-Blue scored 97 goals with the majority of them coming from Eran Zahavi, as again this year, number 7 broke one record after the next. The midfielder/striker demolished every defense that stood in his way scoring 45 goals in 2015. Zahavi was named captain at the beginning of the season after Sheran Yeini departed and scored seven of his 45 goals in Champions League qualifying against Hibernians, Plzen and Basel. As the year came to an end Zahavi decided to do something he had never done before, score four goals in one match and did so against Kiryat Shemona in front of the home crowd at Bloomfield Stadium.
The Cup is Ours
One of the high points of the Treble season was winning the Israel State Cup. After a decade in which the Yellow-and-Blue hadn’t hoisted the State Cup Trophy, the club not only brought the Cup back to Tel Aviv but they did it in style by defeating Hapoel Beer Sheva 6:2 in the highest scoring match since the tournament’s inception.
The City is Yellow-and-Blue
There were three Derbies in 2015 with Maccabi winning all of them. Carlos Garcia, winger Tal Ben Chaim, Nosa Igiebor, Eran Zahavi, Nikola Mitrovic and Mahran Radi all scored for Maccabi.
In the category of growing families, Maccabi did pretty well too. Eran Zahavi had a brace er… twins, Eden Ben Basat, winger Tal Ben Chaim, Yuval Shpungin and Gal Alberman all expanded their families in 2015. MAZEL TOV!
Marketing
Yellow-and-Blue fans love Maccabi merchandise and this past year we made it easier for you to find terrific club gear. Two brand new Official Team Stores were opened up with one at Cinema City, Rishon Le’Zion and the second at the Kiryat Shalom Training Facility where the old shop was replaced by a nifty state of the art store to meet all of your shopping needs. If that wasn’t enough, we totally revamped the Online Shop to make your buying experience on the web even easier than it was before.
New Media
In order to make your digital experience even better, the club launched a brand new website where you can find virtually everything you need to know about the team in both Hebrew and English. In addition, the Official Maccabi Tel Aviv App is now available for download on both the iPhone and Android to make sure you’re always up-to-date with the latest Yellow-and-Blue news.
