The Israel National Team will travel to Serbia today, Monday to prepare for a friendly match against the Serbian National Team on Tuesday evening. Five Yellow & Blue players are part of the squad that just finished training camp in Austria. Yesterday, Head Coach Elisha Levy named Eran Zahavi the Captain of the Israel National Team who has made 30 appearances for the Blue & White and will lead the club onto the pitch with the captain’s armband tomorrow at 21:15.
Just prior to leaving Austria for the match in Novi Sad, the Maccabi and National Team Captain told the Official Website about his feelings on being given this tremendous honor: “When Elisha presented me with the captain’s armband, I was very excited. For me, it was fulfilling a childhood dream and I am very much appreciative of this opportunity.”
On the responsibility that comes with the armband:
“Every match with the National Team is exciting. We have a new coach and we all want to begin positively and I hope that we do exactly that. Having the captain’s armband is a tremendous responsibility but it’s not something that I’m not used to. I don’t need the armband to be a leader.”
The support receive from the Maccabi fans:
“The Maccabi supporters never cease to amaze me. The love and support they show me is not something I take for granted. They are a major part of my success.”
Playing against teammate Predrag Rajikovic:
“It’s nice to have a chance to face Rajiko and I hope for his sake that he starts. If so, then I’m sure it will be very interesting to play against him.”
