Shota Areveladze, Maccabi’s Head Coach spoke about his side’s 3:1 victory over Hapoel Kfar Saba on Matchday One at Teddy Stadium in Jerusalem. The Georgian boss discussed what his team did well on the evening and looked ahead to the second leg of the Europa League Playoff Round:
“I saw that my team held the ball for the majority of the match with the other side playing with 10 men behind the ball and defending well. We had a couple of chances early to score a goal and we actually did, but unfortunately it was called offside. The second half we had chances but all in all we had a good game. But there were many things that we still need to work on.”
The upcoming Europa League clash:
“It’s a really tough game but it’s good to be there. We won the first game and there will be a great atmosphere for the send leg. Everyone likes to play football in this type of atmosphere and it will be a great experience.”
What’s in store at Split:
“We have some plans and we know them a bit better now that we’ve played them. We will prepare over the next few days and get ready for the match.”
Style of play:
“We want to control the ball, press the ball and sore goals. We would like to play a bit quicker than we do sometimes, but the opponent’s sometimes mess up our plans.”
