This past Thursday marked ten years since the passing of Oz Tzemach z”l who at 20 years of age fell in the Second Lebanon War. The Maccabi Tel Aviv Under-12 side is named after Oz as he was major Maccabi supporter.
The players along with coach Eliran Mizrachi attended a ceremony on the tenth anniversary of Oz’s passing. Mizrachi spoke about his feelings and those of the children: “When I explained to the children who Oz Tzemach z”l was and that this was the tenth anniversary of his passing they immediately understood the importance of the event and all wanted to attend.”
About Oz’s courage in battle:
“Oz’s story is really exceptional as he put his life in danger when he went into battle under heavy fire to try and save the lives of other soldiers and friends despite the order to retreat. It was truly heroic. The family has been able to share this story as it’s inspiring and admirable reflecting real strength and determination. The children were privileged to take part in this activity which showed the real values of friendship, bravery and heroism.
It was truly a moving ceremony and one that we were all happy to take part in: the players, parents and myself put aside a few moments to honor the family at this exceptional evening.”
