The 5th day of the Kiev Training Camp saw two Maccabi Youth Department sides have mixed results in their friendly matches. Maccabi “Oded” Tel Aviv (U17) took on the U17 Ukrainian National Team and fell 2:1 as Bar Cohen scored for the young Yellow & Blue. Maccabi “Eli Fuchs” Tel Aviv (U16) faced RFK and won 8:0 thanks to goals by Shaked Navon (2), Tal Torgeman (2), Yehali Lazar, Ilay Hadar, Ron Yosef and Shahaf Mazor.
Raymond Atteveld, the Professional Director of the Under-16 team spoke about the match and the training camp in general: “The training camp gives you the opportunity to build the club on the pitch. You can fix things up and help out each other to get the best out of each player. The players have worked very hard this week both on and off of the pitch. It didn’t take long to see the results as we won 8:0.
As soon as we controlled the pace in the first half our opponent began to tire. We scored some very nice goals due to our quickness. But we can still read the game better, to know where our opponent’s weak points are and where our strengths lie.
We began the second half with fresh players and they pressured the other side who was already tired and we didn’t let them breathe. At the end of the match the players knew that they could’ve scored even more goals. This is the goal that we are aiming for as a club and to know that there are no shortcuts, to always give 100% every day and at every moment. We will continue to push each other higher. Congratulations to the players and there is no need to say it but the players know how to give 100% to Maccabi Tel Aviv.”
Eliezer Ben Aharon, the Under-17 Coach spoke about his side’s contest: “We played against a very good and aggressive National Team. The match can be split up into two halves, one which was good and the other which wasn’t. We made a lot of substitutes and we were a bit fatigued. This was our second match and we will continue to learn from these experiences as we continue on.”
The Maccabi Tel Aviv Youth Department team will continue their training camp and will face additional opponents in Dynamo Kyiv and Shakhtar Donetsk.
