At the end of the 1990’s and the early 2000’s Grzegorz Wedzynsky became one of the Maccabi Tel Aviv’s fans favorite foreigners. The Poland native celebrates his 47th birthday today (Monday) and to mark the occasion we looked back at some of his great moments with the club.
Wedzynsky arrived at Kiryat Shalom in the summer of 1999 and added a certain dynamic to the Maccabi midfield as he played as a defensive midfielder, but throughout the season he also played left defensive back. Either way, Wedzynsky had a fantastic shot during his 3 seasons in Yellow & Blue and scored a number of gorgeous goals from outside of the box.
The Polish midfielder also collected a number of titles winning back to back State Cups lifting the trophy in 2000/01 with a 3:0 victory over Maccabi Petah Tikva in Final. The following campaign the Yellow & Blue hoisted the Cup once again and Wedzynsky scored a goal in the 5:1 semifinal win over Hapoel Petah Tikva.
Wedzynsky eventually left Maccabi Tel Aviv but continued to ply his trade in Israel with Ironi Rishon Le’Zion and Ironi Kiryat Shemona.
