1949: Maccabi Tel Aviv 3:0 Hapoel Tel Aviv
Most fans probably won’t remember this match, but for the city’s first Derby after the founding of the State of Israel, this definitely was a must to make the list. On October 27, 1949 just a number of months following the end of the War of Independence, the Basa Stadium which would eventually become Bloomfield Stadium hosted the first match between Macabi and Hapoel Tel Aviv. In the “102 First Years” book, it was said that the contest was heated with players sent off from both sides. However, the quality of the Yellow & Blue overpowered that of the Reds as Aharon Sidi recorded a brace while Shmuel Israeli added a lone marker in the win.
2012/13: Bnei Yehuda 2:1 Maccabi Tel Aviv
February 18, 2013. Maccabi Tel Aviv faced Bnei Yehuda after defeating Hapoel Tel Aviv 4:0 in the Derby. In the 52’ Rada Price gave Maccabi the lead thanks to a cross by Yoav Ziv, but in the 74’ the host’s evened up the score on a Shalev Menashe header goal 1:1. Maccabi continued to press for a winning strike, but Oz Raly surprised everyone by scoring in the 90’ for a 2:1 advantage.
While Bnei Yehuda celebrated, Prica drew Maccabi even as referee Oral Grinfeld added 9 minutes of injury time to the contest. And then Moshiko Lugassi arrived on the scene…
