Maccabi Tel Aviv opened up the 2019/20 season by winning the Champions Cup thanks to a first half goal by Aaron Schoenfeld. Following the victory, the Head Coach Vladimir Ivic spoke about the title plus he looked ahead to Wednesday night’s Champions League qualifier against Cluj:
“It’s great to win a title to open the season. It’s important that after a match like this we continue in with our next goal. We won the Cup today but it wasn’t simple. Bnei Yehuda made a number of personnel changes but they still maintained their aggressiveness and their mentality from the previous season.”
About the match against Cluj:
“You have to prepare properly for every match in Europe and we will do so and work hard. There are a number of players who are tired from the preseason but now we are really starting to play. We have three more days to get ready for the match.”
Adding another player to the squad:
“I believe that we will bring one or perhaps two players. We will know near the end of the transfer window. As of now we have a squad. We’ll work hard every match in order to do the best for Maccabi.”
The upcoming season:
“This year will be difficult of course. After last season, every club will want to beat us but I’m not worried. I’m happy with the work that the players have done this past month and we will prepare from match to match, that’s out philosophy.”
