Maccabi face a third tough cup-tie against a top flight opponent away from home following yesterday’s State Cup Quarter Final draw at the Israel Football Association.
After knocking out Hapoel Be’ersheva at Turner stadium in the round of 32, and Hapoel Haifa in the Round of 16, Maccabi will now face Ashdod at the Yud Alef stadium.
High flying Ashdod who currently 3rd in the league table, knocked Maccabi out of the Cup at their compact stadium in January 2014 preventing Paulo Sousa’s side a chance to win the league and cup double.
This season, Maccabi suffered one of their two defeats in the league at Ashdod, losing 3-2 on MD9 that was played at the Yud Alef ground on December 7th last year.
