Two days before jetting off for a pre-season training camp in Holland ahead of the 2021/22 season, Maccabi Tel Aviv held a practice match this morning (Friday) at Maccabi Netanya’s training complex. This was the first time Maccabi’s training kit was on display, and as Patrick van Leeuwen also gave the squad a first run-out – the hosts won the match.
Netanya took the lead after 7 minutes as Yaniv Mizrahi beat Daniel Peretz with a powerful low drive from the edge of the area. Maccabi created several chances as Osama Khalaila, making his debut appearance for Maccabi, Bar Cohen and Jonathan Cohen threatened to level the score but couldn’t beat Dani Amos in Netanya’s goal.
Mizrahi doubled Netanya’s lead on 34 as he broke into the area before blasting his shot past Peretz from close range.
Van Leeuwen and his fellow Dutch counterpart Raymond Atteveld sent out 22 new teams after the interval, allowing Idan Nachmias to make his first outing for Maccabi.
Ben Chaim came close to cut the deficit six minutes after the restart as he headed wide a cross from Guy Mizrahi. Dor Turgeman and Nadav Nidam replaced both Ronen Hanzis and Novatos Miroshi for the final 15 minutes.
On 81 Ben Chaim teed-up Nidam whose right foot shot from the edge of the area beat the Netanya keeper but crashed against the base of the post. A minute later Eylon Almog narrowly missed the target. Five minutes from the end, Nidam won the ball deep inside Netanya’s half, found Turgeman who picked Ido Shahar before the diminutive midfielder scored Maccabi’s consolation goal.
