Maccabi Tel Aviv reached an agreement with Maccabi Netanya on the transfer of Gabi Kanichowsky who successfully underwent a medical at the club and signed a contract for three years with an option to extend by another season. As part of the agreement between the two clubs, 21-year-old midfielder Eden Karzev was transferred to Netanya.
After completing his move, Kanichowsky told the club’s official website: “First I would like to thank Maccabi Netanya for three amazing seasons. I am delighted to open a new chapter in my life, a new challenge, new targets but at a place which is not new to me. I am delighted to return to Maccabi, a club I have known from a young age and a club every kid and player dreams to play for. I played in the same youth team with Dan Glazer and Eylon Almog so now I am waiting to meet the rest of my teammates and the fans at Bloomfield stadium”.
Maccabi’s Head of the Football Department, Barak Itzhaki, added: “We are delighted to sign Gabi on a long term contract at Maccabi and are certain that he would settle at the place he grew-up at in a swift and smooth manner. Good luck Gabi”.
Kanichowsky made his first footballing footsteps at Hapoel Ra’anana’s youth department before joining in 2014 and at the age of 16.5 Maccabi’s Youth Academy. The following two seasons, Kanichowsky, scored 4 goals in 76 appearances in all competitions for Maccabi Tel Aviv ‘Shahar’ U-19’s side including a goal against Dynamo Kiev in the UEFA Youth Champions League. His debut and only appearance for Maccabi’s senior side, Kanichowsky made on 28.10. 15 against Bnei Yehuda in a Toto Cup match.
The attacking midfielder spent the 2016/17 season on loan at Hapoel Petah Tikva where he scored 4 goals in 38 appearances. The following 2017/18 season saw Kanichowsky score 6 goals in 38 appearances whilst on loan at Hapoel Acco before joining Maccabi Netanya ahead of the 2018/19 campaign. In three seasons at Netanya, Kanichowsky scored 19 goals in 112 appearances as this season he added a goal in five more appearances.
Kanichowsky represented the young Israel national teams 15 times, scored a goal in 11 appearances for the U-21’s and has 4 more appearances for the U-19’s.
In addition, 20-year-old midfielder, Parfait Guiagon, joined Netanya on loan until the end of the season.
