Maccabi’s veteran striker spoke after the disappointing 1-1 draw against Sektzia Ness Ziona and didn’t hide his disappointment: “It is a shame because there were many people here today who expected a victory but we gave everything, we pushed and tried but it wasn’t to be”.
The 35-year-old striker, Eran Zahavi, who didn’t a score in Maccabi’s 1-1 draw against Seltzia Ness Ziona at Bloomfield admitted after the game: “Obviously I would have preferred to speak here after a victory but I think we deserved the three points here today as the ball simply refused to go in” Eran Zahavi said. “We took an early 1-0 lead and they had a player sent off with the game totally in our hands. But we conceded a goal out of nowhere which should never happen against 10 men and then they sat back and we started chasing the game. I hate making excuses as this is our result on the night which is the reality right now”.
Zahavi, who just like the rest of the team came close on several occasions but couldn’t convert the chances, added: “We had plenty of half chances and balls were bouncing inside the box, we missed chances and the keeper saved some. It is a shame as we had 22,000 fans here and they all expected a victory. We gave everything we had, we pushed and tried but it wasn’t meant to be”.
Ahead of Tuesday’s midweek match against Hapoel Jerusalem, Zahavi added: “There are no easy matches in this league, not here, not at Haifa, not Be’ersheva, Ashdod or Sakhnin. Every match is tough and we are at a marathon so we will keep on trying to do our best until the end of the season”.
