Dor Turgeman scored his fourth goal of the 2024/25 campaign and first in the league as he led Maccabi to a 1-0 victory over Hapoel Be’ersheva.

The 20-year-old who played in the closing stages with a tight hamstring and limped off the pitch, assured the media his injury wasn’t too serious. At the same time, Turgeman had his thoughts with fellow teammate Sagiv Jehezkel who was taken to hospital with a fractured cheekbone: “First I would like to wish Sagiv a speedy recovery and hope the injury is not too bad”.

On his spectacular solo effort that saw him beat three Be’ersheva defenders before scoring the only goal of the game in style, added: “I am delighted with this goal as I always want to score and do special things. Happy it just worked for me this time. Do I score goals like that in training? Sometimes I do. To be perfectly honest, after leaving the defenders behind me all I thought about was ‘I hope not to miss this’ so I am happy it went in.”

On repaying coach Zaeko Lazetic for the faith shown in him, Turgeman said: “He gives me a lot of confidence and believes in me. I am just to be able to repay him on the pitch.”

Turgeman, paid tribute to veteran striker Eran Zahavi and praised him for the work they are doing on the training ground which helps his game: “I have an excellent connection with Eran as he always teaches me more things. We talk all the time and I am learning from him every day. Today the coach decided that today I will play, but in the next game maybe he will play. We are both strikers as there is no first or second choice.”

Turgeman, who generated interest by clubs abroad, said of his future aspirations: “I am here and doing the best I possibly can. What will happen in the future is difficult to know. I didn’t deal with the offers that were mentioned, I kept working and focusing on Maccabi Tel Aviv. I don’t regret any decision that I take and I don’t think that rushing to move away is a good thing. One has to be dominant here first, in the league, to the lead the team and then we will see.”
